Arizona law authorizes a fee of up to $10.00 per notarial act. Mobile travel fees are charged separately and are disclosed and agreed upon before the appointment. Any additional non-notarial services, if requested, are separately itemized and are not fees for the notarial act itself.
Payment is due at the time of service. By scheduling an appointment, the signer acknowledges responsibility for all disclosed notary and travel fees associated with the appointment.
Travel fees are separate from Arizona notarial fees and are charged for travel-related expenses only. Travel fees will be disclosed and agreed upon before the appointment begins.
Mileage Fee: $0.67 per mile (round trip)
Based on the current Arizona state employee mileage reimbursement rate. Mileage rates are subject to change when updated by the State of Arizona.
Example:
10 miles round trip × $0.67 = $6.70 travel fee
25 miles round trip × $0.67 = $16.75 travel fee
50 miles round trip × $0.67 = $33.50 travel fee
Additional Travel Terms:
Mileage is calculated from the notary’s starting location to the appointment location and return trip.
Travel fees are separate from statutory notarial fees.
Notarial fees are charged separately according to the Arizona Notary Public Fee Schedule.
If a notarization cannot be completed due to missing identification, incomplete documents, improper witnesses, or other signer/document issues, applicable travel fees may still apply because travel services were provided.
Authority:
Travel fees are authorized under A.R.S. § 41-316(B). Notarial fees are governed by A.R.S. § 38-412 and A.A.C. R2-12-1102.
A notary’s role is generally to verify identity, witness signatures, confirm willingness/awareness, and complete a notarial certificate (acknowledgment or jurat). They do not usually give legal advice or determine what documents someone should sign.
Typical Notary Services
Common notarized vehicle paperwork includes:
Title transfers (buying/selling a car)
Affidavits of correction
Bill of sale (in some states)
Lien release documents
Odometer statements (state-dependent)
Power of attorney for vehicle transactions
What the notary does:
Verifies signer identity
Confirms the signer understands the document
Witnesses signatures if required
Completes the notarial certificate and seal
Important: DMV requirements vary by state, and some forms must be signed in front of the notary.
These may include:
Medical consent forms
Advance healthcare directives
HIPAA authorization forms
Medical power of attorney
Physician-related declarations
What the notary does:
Verifies the signer is aware and signing voluntarily
Screens for obvious incapacity or coercion
May refuse if the signer appears unable to understand the document
The notary does not certify medical decisions or legal validity of the document.
A financial power of attorney authorizes someone else to manage financial matters.
What the notary does:
Confirms identity of the principal (person granting authority)
Ensures the signer appears willing and competent
Witnesses signing and notarizes required sections
Common uses:
Banking access
Property management
Tax matters
Financial transactions during illness/travel
Because this is a high-authority document, many notaries are careful about signer awareness and possible undue influence.
The federal employment eligibility form (Form I-9) is not actually notarized unless a separate affidavit is attached.

What a notary may do:
Act as an authorized representative for an employer
Inspect original identity/work authorization documents
Complete Section 2 on behalf of the employer
Important:
The notary is not acting as a notary public unless a notarized affidavit is separately required.
Rules vary by employer instructions and state law.
A will itself may or may not legally require notarization, depending on state law, but many people notarize a self-proving affidavit attached to the will.
Last Will and Testament
What the notary does:
Witnesses signatures (if applicable)
Notarizes the self-proving affidavit
Verifies identity
The notary:
Does not draft the will
Does not advise whether it is legally valid
Cannot interpret legal language
Trust documents often require notarized signatures for execution or property transfers.
Living Trust
What the notary does:
Verifies trustee/grantor identity
Witnesses signatures
Notarizes trust certification or declaration pages
These signings may involve multiple signers and supporting property documents.
Certified Copies
In some states, notaries can certify copies of certain documents.
Many states prohibit certifying copies of vital records (birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc.).
Apostilles
An apostille authenticates a notarized document for international use under the Hague Convention.

Sometimes offers courier/filing service
The apostille itself is usually issued by a state authority, not the notary.
These are mobile notary appointments at detention facilities or correctional institutions.

Verifying inmate identity
Ensuring willingness and awareness
Following facility restrictions (approved forms, witnesses, timing)

Powers of attorney
Property authorizations
